Boosting Our Health: My 4-Month Juice Plus October Challenge & How Gardening Transformed Our Lives

Get ready for an exciting challenge!

This October, I’ve kicked off the #GeekOutOnNutrition Challenge, a four-month nutrition journey to explore the benefits of Juice Plus fruit, vegetable, and berry blend supplements. Why four months? Because real change takes time, and 30 days just isn’t enough to truly evaluate how something like this can impact our health.

For my family, health has always been a priority, but we’ve had our challenges. With medications that affect our appetite and enjoyment of food, even our love for fresh produce hasn’t been enough to make sure we’re getting all the nutrients we need. That’s where Juice Plus comes in, and I’m excited to see how it fits into our journey of balanced nutrition.

Why We Started the Challenge

We love growing our own food—it’s fresh, flavorful, and gives us control over what we’re eating. But, despite all the fresh veggies from our garden, I’m still concerned that we’re missing some key nutrients. Eating well is a priority for us, but as much as we enjoy our indulgences (because, hey, life’s about balance!), I want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to nourish our bodies.

My family has faced some health challenges, nothing major, but enough to make us re-evaluate what we’re consuming. Some of the medications we’re on mess with our appetites and make food less enjoyable. And while our garden provides plenty of fresh, homegrown produce, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that we might still be lacking some important nutrients. That’s why we decided to give Juice Plus a try.

I was impressed by the fact that Juice Plus is backed by more than 40 peer-reviewed clinical studies from top universities and research centers. These studies explore a range of areas, from immune function and gut health to cardiovascular health and antioxidant protection. While every person’s experience is unique, these potential benefits were enough to make me curious about how it might complement our diet. Since we already use their Tower Gardens for fresh produce, it felt natural to see if their supplements could further support our overall wellness journey.

How Gardening Became Part of Our Lives

Before last year, gardening wasn’t really part of our lifestyle. Sure, I always admired those who could grow their own food, but I didn’t think it was something we could do—until we started GardenGeekGrub. Since then, it’s become an active part of our lives. We now grow a large portion of our produce at home, and I honestly can’t imagine how we ever lived without it. Not only does the food taste better, but it’s incredibly satisfying to know that we’re eating vegetables that we grew ourselves.

That being said, even with all the fresh produce we’re growing, there’s no way I could grow the variety of fruits and vegetables found in the Juice Plus blends. It’s simply not practical for us to grow everything we’d need to meet the full range of nutrients. So, for us, this challenge is about combining the best of both worlds—homegrown food and the added benefits of supplements.

The Benefits of Growing Our Own Food

Growing my own food has taught me so much about flavor, freshness, and how connected we are to what we eat. What we grow almost always tastes better than anything I can buy in the store. There’s something about harvesting a tomato right off the vine or pulling fresh lettuce from the Tower Garden that just can’t be matched.

On top of that, I feel better knowing that we’re eating the most nutrient-packed vegetables possible. However, even with the fresh produce we consume daily, I’m still not sure if we’re getting everything we need through diet alone. That’s where supplements like Juice Plus can really help fill in the gaps, especially when it comes to nutrients that are harder to get consistently from our meals.

Making Gardening Easier with Tech

Let’s be real—gardening can feel like a chore sometimes. Weeding, dealing with pests, and figuring out how to grow in a limited space or during off-seasons are just a few of the challenges that can make it less enjoyable. But, thanks to technology like our Tower Gardens and Lateral Hydroponic NFT system, gardening has become a lot more fun and less labor-intensive. No weeding required!

My Tower Garden, in particular, has been a game-changer. It allows us to grow fresh produce indoors all year round, regardless of the season. I love knowing that I have access to fresh greens whenever I need them, but as I mentioned before, there are still some crops that just aren’t practical to grow. That’s where the diversity of supplements like Juice Plus really comes in handy.

The Start of the #GeekOutOnNutrition Challenge

So, here we are—six days into the #GeekOutOnNutrition Challenge, and I’m taking six capsules a day: two each of the Berry, Fruit, and Vegetable blends. It’s still early, so I haven’t noticed any major changes yet, but I also haven’t experienced any negative side effects. One thing I have noticed is a slight improvement in my digestive health over the past couple of days, which is promising! For those who don’t know, I’ve had IBS since I was a teen, so digestive issues are something I’m always mindful of.

While my IBS has been well-managed, I’m eager to see if these supplements will help me feel even better. I plan to keep a close eye on how things progress over the next few months and will be reporting back regularly. So far, I’m optimistic, but I’m also realistic—it takes time to see real results, and that’s why I committed to this challenge for the full four months.
